Draft script.
Scene list and script
over.
1. Make it live logo and the scene of a music event. Loud music,
thumping beat, dancing and enjoying themselves. I want to hook the audience at this point.
2. News of Covid – getting increasingly worse. Building the
tension.
3. Scenes of empty stages and venues. Closed
signs. Black and white footage, quiet, sad music, symbolising loss of
excitement. Binary opposition from the first scene.
4. Government scheme to help. Freelancers left out.
Demonstrations outside parliament. Loss of income, lack of access to financial help.
Voice over script “Live music is not
only essential to the economy, but is also important for our culture and mental
health. Many musicians are freelancers, which means they work for themselves
and are not part of big companies. As a result, they do not get paid if they do
not work. Covid-19 has prevented them from working, but has also meant that
they do not qualify for government help because they are self-employed.
Musicians have protested to highlight this problem. If they don’t get
financial support, then our music culture will suffer. “
5. Introductions to the musicians, shows pictures of the
people who will be giving their stories later in the film. Voice
over script “Hi, my name is Connor Meehan, and I am a
musician”, “Hi, I am Jonathan Best and I am a musician” etc.
6. Statistics on screen to show the audience the impact
of Covid on musicians.
Voice over script “A recent survey
for Help the Musicians found that half of all professional musicians in the UK
have earned nothing during lockdown and 96% lost the majority of their income.
Musicians are starting to leave the industry and find other jobs in order to
survive”.
7. Cut to stories of musicians. Self-filmed footage connects
to isolation in Covid.
8. More statistics with graphics. This time from my own
survey, including the opinions of the target audience. This will help the
audience see the opinions of other people, which might make them want to donate
and help.
Voice over “87% of you agreed
that musicians had found lockdown difficult due to Covid restrictions on
live music. 86% of you thought that musicians were right to demonstrate to
highlight their problems to the government. 81% of you would be interested in
seeing bands play live on line. 70% of you would be willing to donate small
sums of money to help musicians and venues over this difficult time”.
9. Back to the first scene. This reminds the audience of
live music and wanting to get back to being able to go to live concerts. Thumping music, exciting and lively.
Voice over, “If you want to help
musicians, so that they are still around after the Covid crisis and we can soon return to
this…”
10. Screen with Make it Live logo and Live Support link.
Thumping music from previous scene becomes quieter, narrators voice becomes normal.
Voice over “If you also want to help musicians through
this crisis and beyond click on our new platform - Live Support - to access new
and exclusive music by your favourite bands and musicians, and find opportunities to
help them and music venues through small donations and activism. Live Support - supporting musicians now and into
the future.”
