I have never used Instagram before, but I have been watching some videos about using it for marketing.
I have learnt that the target audience for Instagram is 18-29 year olds, and most often females. This age range fits with the range I want to attract for the Live Support platform that I am marketing (18-30s). Live Support targets music lovers to donate money to help support struggling freelance musicians during Covid-19 in return for unique content and social connections like chat rooms.
Instagram requires a lot of regular input. I do know that you can set up links between Facebook, Twitter and Instagram so that a post on one social media platform also gets posted on the other platforms. This might help reduce the time and effort of marketing on social media.
Under normal circumstances I would probably post images and videos of live band performances, but this is not possible in lockdown. Downloading images and videos from the web will mean they are lower in quality. What I could do is ask musicians to send me some images and videos of them playing live (before Covid-19), as an example of the entertainment we have lost in Covid. I could also interview them on Zoom. This means I could create unique content for my Instagram reels and IGTV to attract followers and fans.
I have discovered that making videos that help people attracts more followers. So I could produce reels of musicians giving tips to other non-professional musicians of how to cope in lockdown, or how to keep promoting music during lockdown. Professional freelance musicians (who will benefit form Live Support) could even send me short videos of themselves giving messages to fans. I could also post clips from my 10-minute film to attract people to watch the film. I could put the link to Live Support in my biography.
Another way to engage followers is to ask them to post comments by asking for their opinions or asking them simple questions or by posting simple polls. For example I could say to my followers, ‘Your best tip for coping with lockdown?’ or ‘Your favourite tune in lockdown?’ or ‘What band do you most miss hearing live?’ These only require short answers.
Hash tags help to connect to people who might be interested in my content. I plan to make lists of hash tags that can be pasted into Instgram to accompany posts in which I want to target certain types of people. For example, with a picture of the Live Support logo #musicansinlockdown #musiciansincovid, #musicansincovid19, #musicansincovidtime
Instagram provides data so I can see my most viewed or liked posts. Using this data will enable me to learn what my followers are attracted and not attracted to. This will help improve my content.
These are just a few things I could do on Instagram to start to market the Live Support platform.
